Biography

Edie Adams was an American actress, comedian, singer and businesswoman whose career spanned more than four decades of stage, television and film work. Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, she studied voice at Juilliard and drama at Columbia before winning the Miss U.S. Television contest in 1950, a title that brought her a guest spot alongside Milton Berle. She joined the cast of Ernie Kovacs's Three to Get Ready in 1951 and was known for impersonating glamorous stars, Marilyn Monroe among them. On Broadway she earned a Theatre World Award for Wonderful Town and a Tony for her featured role in Li'l Abner. Her screen credits included The Apartment (1960), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), The Best Man (1964) and The Honey Pot (1967). She headlined the series Here's Edie, served 20 years as the face of Muriel Cigars, and founded Edie Adams Cosmetics and the Cut 'n' Curl salons.
