Dermot Walsh
Biography
Dermot Walsh was an Irish actor who worked in stage, film, and television, known for playing King Richard the Lionheart in the 1962 series Richard the Lionheart. Born in Dublin, he read law at University College Dublin before studying acting at the Abbey Theatre School and spending three years with Lord Longford's company at the Gate Theatre. In 1945 he moved to Britain and briefly joined Croydon Repertory. A Rank talent scout later spotted him, leading to roles in Bedelia, Hungry Hill, and The Mark of Cain. He appeared as a leading man in seven films before returning to the theater, then resumed his film career in B movies. His final film appearance came in 1983. His London stage debut came in George Bernard Shaw's Buoyant Billions in 1949, and his theater credits included Reluctant Heroes, Laburnum Grove, and The Mousetrap. He wrote The Murder Line in 1967. Television work included Danger Man, No Hiding Place, and Softly, Softly.
