Delphi Lawrence
Biography
Delphi Lawrence was an English actress who trained as a concert pianist before turning to the stage, graduating from RADA in 1949. Born in Hertfordshire, she moved into films in 1952 and spent the next decade building a following in British cinema, winning lead roles that were almost always in B pictures. Her television work included the Countess in the historical adventure series Sir Francis Drake and Cora in The Saint. In 1966 she relocated to the United States, where she worked on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Wild Wild West and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Her roles grew fewer and less important by the close of the 1960s, and she retired in 1973. A brief return came in 1975 on Broadway in The Constant Wife, and she later toured as Vera Charles in Mame, the last time in 1990, opposite Juliet Prowse. She died in 2002.
