Dean Cundey

Dean Cundey is an American cinematographer and director. Born in Alhambra, California, he built model sets as a boy, an early sign of his interest in films. He had made several low-budget movies before Debra Hill brought him onto Halloween in 1978. That project began his repeated work with Hill and John Carpenter, including The Fog, The Thing, Escape from New York, Halloween II, and Big Trouble in Little China. He was among the first cinematographers to use the steadicam, using it in Halloween to show what Michael Myers saw. His later credits include Jurassic Park (1993), Apollo 13, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Back to the Future trilogy, Romancing the Stone, Psycho II, What Women Want, and Jack and Jill. In 1997, he directed Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography and further nominations from BAFTA and the British Society of Cinematographers.
