Biography

Carlos Lacámara is an actor and playwright from Cuba who began his television work in 1983 with a role on Family Ties. Born in Havana, he moved to Washington, D.C. in 1960 and later attended UCLA. His television roles include Paco Ortíz on Nurses and Ray García, who played the family patriarch on The Brothers García, a part that paired him again with Ada Maris, his former colleague on Nurses. He wrote Nowhere on the Border, which took first prize in 2006 in the MetLife Nuestras Voces National Playwriting Competition run by Repertorio Español, and the New York company staged it in 2007. His Havana Bourgeois earned a win in Reverie Productions' Next Generations Playwriting Contest and was produced at 59E59 Theaters in New York in 2007, with later runs in Los Angeles and Coral Gables. For Cuba Libre he wrote the book and extra lyrics, and Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon, first staged it in October 2015.
