Candy Darling
Biography
Candy Darling was an American actress known as a Warhol superstar. She rose in New York City's underground film scene after Andy Warhol cast her in a comic scene in Flesh (1968). She had a leading part in Women in Revolt (1971), a satire of the women's liberation movement. Her independent credits included Silent Night, Bloody Night (1972), Brand X (1970), and Some of My Best Friends Are... (1971). Her mainstream work included Klute (1970), a film with Jane Fonda, and Lady Liberty (1971), a film with Sophia Loren. On stage, she appeared in Vain Victory: The Vicissitudes of the Damned at La MaMa and in the original 1972 production of Tennessee Williams's Small Craft Warnings. She contributed interviews to Warhol's Interview magazine, and Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon photographed her. She died in 1974.
