Bruce Barry

Bruce Barry was an Australian actor and singer. Born in Gympie, Queensland, and raised in Charters Towers, he worked first in radio across Queensland and northern New South Wales, then sang in Gold Coast clubs before he turned to the stage with a Sydney troupe, the Young Elizabethans. His first role there was the title part in Henry V, and over three years he toured Australia in regional productions. He combined singing and acting in stage musicals including Funny Girl, Hello, Dolly!, Irma La Douce, Annie Get Your Gun, 1776 and Promises, Promises, and acted in straight drama, including Noël Coward's Private Lives. He became a familiar television face in Bellbird, Skyways, The Flying Doctors, Glenview High and Division 4. From 1980 he spent three years in London musical theater, appearing in The Biograph Girl, H.M.S. Pinafore and a West End revival of Oklahoma!, and toured the UK with Evita. He died in 2017.
