Brenda de Banzie
Biography
Brenda de Banzie was a British stage and film actress, born in Manchester in 1909. She played Maggie Hobson in David Lean's Hobson's Choice (1954), a film set in Salford with John Mills and Charles Laughton. Her other notable film role was Phoebe Rice, the hapless wife of Archie Rice, a comedian whom Laurence Olivier portrayed, in the 1960 screen adaptation of John Osborne's The Entertainer. De Banzie had already acted in that play in London and on Broadway, and the work earned her a Tony Award nomination. Among her other films were Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Too Many Crooks (1959), and Blake Edwards's The Pink Panther (1963). She also made many pictures for the Rank Organization and died in 1981.
