Bobby Driscoll
Biography
Bobby Driscoll was an American child actor who worked in film and television. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he moved to Los Angeles as a child and began performing as a boy. After a small debut in Lost Angel (1943), he appeared in The Fighting Sullivans (1944) and became one of the first actors Walt Disney put under contract. He starred in Song of the South (1946), So Dear to My Heart (1948), and Treasure Island (1950), and he earned an Academy Juvenile Award for his roles in So Dear to My Heart and The Window (1949). He was also the animation model for and voiced the title character in Peter Pan (1953). As his film career slowed in the mid-1950s, he turned mostly to guest spots on anthology television programs. He died in 1968.

A role that slipped away
Haskin wrote that Disney wanted Driscoll for Tom Sawyer in a Mark Twain adaptation, since the boy was the right age, but a story rights ownership dispute with producer David O. Selznick made the studio cancel the whole project.
Getting ready for a role
Driscoll served as the animation model for Peter Pan's close-ups and provided the character's voice, while dancer Roland Dupree modeled the motion.
About the name
Driscoll started going by Robert Driscoll to separate himself from his early Bobby parts. In a 1952 Schlitz Playhouse of Stars episode, he was billed as Bob Driscoll.
