Bob Sweeney
Biography
Bob Sweeney was an American actor, director and producer who worked in radio, television and film. Born in San Francisco, he graduated from San Francisco State College and, early in World War II, formed a stand-up comedy team with classmate George Fenneman to entertain troops at military bases. From 1944 to 1948 he teamed with Hal March on CBS Radio's The Bob Sweeney-Hal March Show, then moved into early television sitcoms, including My Favorite Husband and The Brothers, and starred in the short-lived Fibber McGee and Molly in 1959. His film roles included the undertaker in John Ford's The Last Hurrah (1958) and a Disney circus manager in Toby Tyler, plus an IRS agent in Son of Flubber (1963) and Cousin Bob in Hitchcock's Marnie (1964). He became best known as a television director and producer, directing 102 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and earning an Emmy nomination for The Love Boat in 1983.
