Betty Lou Gerson
Biography
Betty Lou Gerson was an American actress whose career centered on radio but also included film, television, and voice work. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, she started acting in radio drama in 1935 and became a familiar presence in soap operas and anthology series, later settling in Los Angeles in the 1940s. She narrated Walt Disney's Cinderella in 1950 and eleven years later voiced the villainous Cruella de Vil in One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), and was named a Disney Legend in 1996 for it. Her film debut came in The Red Menace (1949), and her on-camera credits included The Fly (1958), The Miracle of the Hills (1959), and a cameo in Mary Poppins (1964). She also made guest appearances on Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
