Ben Mankiewicz
Biography
Ben Mankiewicz is an American television host and journalist at Turner Classic Movies. Born in Washington, D.C., he studied at Tufts University and earned a master's from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism before working as a reporter and anchor at WCSC-TV in Charleston, South Carolina, and then at WAMI in Miami. He left news journalism and auditioned for Turner Classic Movies, joining in 2003 as the network's second host, working weekend afternoons behind Robert Osborne. In 2013 Osborne handed weekday primetime hosting to him, and in 2017 he succeeded Osborne as the network's primetime host. He also hosts the podcasts The Plot Thickens, whose first season was named a Webby Honoree and which received an Adweek award for Best Branded Podcast in 2021, and Talking Pictures. He was a film critic for At the Movies during the 2008 to 2009 season and for What the Flick?!, and he was interviewed for the documentary Memory: The Origins of Alien (2019).
