Angeline Ball

Angeline Ball is an Irish actress, singer, and guitarist who works in film, television, and theater. She was born in Dublin in 1969 and grew up in Cabra, Dublin. At eight she began attending the Billie Barry Stage School, where she learned ballet, tap, and modern dance. She gained notice as Imelda Quirke, the backing singer in Alan Parker's The Commitments (1991). In 1993, the writers Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement made a short-lived series for her, Over the Rainbow, and she supplied its music. In 1994 she took the part of Vada's mother in My Girl 2 (1994), performing Charlie Chaplin's Smile. She contributed backing vocals to the soundtrack for Evita after working with Parker again. Brendan Gleeson was her co-star in John Boorman's The General (1998), where she played Tina Lawless. During the 2000s she acted in UK television programs including Doc Martin, Shameless, and Mr Selfridge, and in 2008 she played Maggie Townsend on EastEnders.
