- Before the feature, Finnish commercials production company Woodpecker Film published Jalmari Helander's 2003 short Rare Exports Inc. online, in which he set three hunters — a marker, sniper and tracker — on the trail of a wild Santa Claus in Lapland. Positive reaction from an online audience led the company to produce a 2005 sequel short, again written and directed by Helander.
