Plot summary

In the caves of Guadix, Granada, families live forgotten and without schooling at the start of the twentieth century. Pedro Poveda responds by organizing a wide educational and social effort, and reactions are mixed: gratitude from those it helps, suspicion and envy from educated circles and from churchmen. After a painful parting he settles in Covadonga, Asturias, with time to reflect on the educational situation of the country. In 1911 he begins a movement carried by young women that becomes the Teresian Association, formed to train qualified Christian teachers. Academies, residences and teaching centers open across Spain. In Jaén he meets Josefa Segovia, the first woman of the city to hold a degree in education, who becomes the association's first president. In 1921 he moves to Madrid and joins parish duties with social and educational work.
