Platoon Leader (1988) on Netflix

Plot summary

Lieutenant Jeffrey Knight arrives in Vietnam from the United States Military Academy and is airlifted to an outpost to take over his first platoon. The veterans are led in the field by Sergeant Michael McNamara, who tells the new officer they have no need of a leader who follows the rules. Every man except Private Joshua Parker, his radio operator, rejects Knight's authority. Wounded on one of his first patrols, Knight is visited in the hospital by Major Flynn, who asks if he is fit to return. He comes back to find his gear gone, since the platoon did not expect him. The men hand his property back, and Knight realizes that earning their trust will take a different approach.
