Plot summary
In a Luanda neighborhood, a merchant has a plastic figure of Our Lady shipped in from an overseas nation and puts it up for sale. He exploits Angola's Catholic majority, counting on the figure to bring him large sums in profit, and the residents of the neighborhood encounter it in turn. Domingas, a mother in mourning, seeks peace. Bessa, a barber, starts a new cult around the figure. Zoyo, a stray kid, looks for revenge for his lost friend. The three of them have little contact with one another, and the figure has a profound effect on the inhabitants of Angola.
