One Rogue Reporter (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Rich Peppiatt works as a reporter for a tabloid newspaper and grows unhappy with its preference for sensation over substance. He leaves the paper and sends his resignation letter to The Guardian. A phone hacking scandal at Rupert Murdoch's News of the World puts tabloid conduct under scrutiny, and Peppiatt testifies before the Leveson Inquiry. He puts the skills he honed on Fleet Street to another use: a series of comic stunts aimed at prominent media figures, among them Martin Clarke of MailOnline, Hugh Whittow of the Daily Express, Paul Dacre of the Daily Mail, Neville Thurlbeck and Kelvin MacKenzie, formerly of The Sun. Between the stunts he interviews journalists, comedians and public figures about privacy, the public interest and freedom of expression. The documentary developed from a stage show Peppiatt performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012.
