Plot summary
The Girlie Show is Madonna's fourth concert tour, mounted behind her fifth album, Erotica, after that record and her film Body of Evidence won over neither critics nor audiences. Across 39 concerts it draws protests in several countries over its sexual imagery: in Israel, Orthodox Jews campaign to force a cancellation, and roughly 30 Puerto Ricans call for a boycott of her music outside her Miami house after she rubs the country's flag between her legs on stage. Madonna considers Argentina or Mexico as the site for the filming, then picks Australia. The Sydney Cricket Ground date of November 19, 1993 airs on American television two days later and becomes that network's most-watched original program of the year.
