Plot summary
Loneliness draws them together in Hong Kong. Chao Su-ling sings in a lounge, and Liu Suk-ping works as a film actress; both have come from Taiwan to build careers, and neither has made progress. Billie, a local model, wants the same thing and is stuck in the same place. The three of them meet Tony, whose family owns a rice shop, and the group drifts into careless nights out. Tony is known as a playboy; he passes over Ms. Chung, the shop's manager, and moves in with Billie instead. Their indulgence ends when one of them is killed in a burglary, and a police detective turns his attention to the survivors.
