Plot summary
Months after their wedding, Mollie and James are raising Mikey and his new half-sister, Julie. Mikey looked forward to being a big brother, but the reality of a baby who shares his toys and his parents' attention disappoints him, and he is unkind to her. Julie is unimpressed by Mikey, who keeps having accidents while he learns to use the toilet despite the encouragement of his family and the unorthodox advice of his playmate Eddie. James takes a full-time pilot job through Mollie's parents, and the longer hours strain the marriage; James finds Mollie overprotective, while Mollie's younger brother Stuart moves into the apartment without James being consulted.

- When the film aired on Freeform, many of its deleted scenes were restored, including one where Mollie threatens Mikey with corporal punishment, a scene Kirstie Alley reportedly hated, as she was an advocate against corporal punishment.
- Joan Rivers voiced baby Julie in an uncredited turn at the end of the first film, Look Who's Talking, but due to scheduling conflicts she declined to reprise the role in the sequel.
- An early trailer for the sequel featured Richard Pryor as the voice of Eddie, the role that Damon Wayans took in the released film.
