Plot summary
Little Fauss rides dirt bikes as an amateur. Halsy Knox races on the professional circuit. The two meet after a race outside Phoenix, Arizona, and a friendship forms, since Fauss admires the way Halsy lives without ties. Seally Fauss, the younger man's father, sees Halsy as a harmful influence and will not help him when his truck breaks down. Halsy later turns up at the motorcycle repair shop where Fauss works and persuades the admiring young man to fix his bike for nothing.

- After Robert Redford dropped out of the 1968 film Blue, Paramount Pictures sued him for violating his three-picture deal; the lawsuit was dropped as part of his agreement to play Halsy in Little Fauss and Big Halsy in May 1969.
