Plot summary
A stern civil servant who once played piano herself, Lara Jenkins has spent years planning and pushing the musical training of her son Viktor. Today she turns sixty, and this evening Viktor plays the most important concert of his career. Viktor has not been in touch with her for weeks, and nothing suggests she will be welcome. Lara buys up the leftover tickets and gives them to people she meets, and she paces about Berlin in the hours before the concert trying to reach her elusive son. The harder she works to make the evening succeed, the more the day slips out of her control.
