Plot summary
Valentina lives a quiet life in New York City with Jason, and the two of them spend their free time running, walking and enjoying each other's company. She has built that life far from her relatives in Mexico. When Jason proposes, she decides to tell the Hidalgos in person. They are a scandalous political dynasty, the most chaotic and surreal in the country's history, and they need Valentina to pose as the fiancée of the boyfriend she once had, at least for a time. Denied a green card, she flies to Mexico to ask her father, a political figure, to end the pretense.
