Plot summary
The Gauna, mysterious alien lifeforms, destroyed Earth, and the surviving remnants of humanity escaped into space aboard the enormous generation ship Sidonia. After millennia of drifting, the Gauna attack the ship for the first time in a hundred years, and a temporary victory is won with the help of Tsumugi Shiraui, a human-Gauna hybrid, and Nagate Tanikaze, an ace pilot of the Guardian mechs. Ten years afterward, a brief respite comes to the people aboard Sidonia, and peaceful days pass. Tsumugi begins to understand what she feels for Nagate, who is now regarded as a hero of Sidonia. Captain Kobayashi has always known that peace cannot last while the Gauna exist.
