Plot summary
In Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, high school student Ganta Nakami gets no sleep at night. Insomnia leaves him with headaches and daytime drowsiness, and his moodiness has driven his classmates away. The school's small rooftop observatory, now used as a storage room, becomes his refuge. There he meets Isaki Magari, a classmate who cannot sleep either and dozes in the observation room. To keep the place open, the two decide to revive the astronomy club, which the school had disbanded. Ganta takes the lead, asking other students for their cooperation and planning a stargazing event to prove the club is active.
