Plot summary

Ray Shane spent five years in prison on corruption charges and now works security at the House of the Rising Sun, a club with an illegal gambling den hidden inside it. One night a masked gang holds him at gunpoint, takes $300,000 from the club, and the owner's son, Peter, is killed in the shootout. Police arriving at the scene treat Ray as the man who let the robbers in. Ray's boss, the small-time gangster Vinnie Marcella, sets him to tracking down his son's killers, and Ray's former police colleague Jimmy LaGrange passes him information. Ray's relationship with Jenny Porter, one of the club's dancers, is rocky after her affair with Tony, Vinnie's right-hand man, while Ray was in prison.
