Plot summary
Happy, whose full name is Harpreet Kaur, is meant to enter an arranged marriage in Amritsar with Daman Singh Bagga, a local corporator, but she has already chosen Guddu, a musician, as the man she wants. Her attempt to leave with Guddu goes wrong, and she ends up hidden in a fruit basket on a lorry, unloaded at the Lahore home of Bilal Ahmed, the son of a former governor. Happy asks to telephone Guddu; Bilal wants only to send her back to India. She slips away from his house, is arrested by the police officer Usman Afridi, and uses a false story about being smuggled to force Bilal into helping her. His fiancée Zoya, who finds Happy in the house, suggests bringing Guddu to Lahore.
