Plot summary

In Cherkessk, in the Caucasus, Sasha Soslanov is known to everyone as Sos, a cheerful type who refuses to be discouraged. He has just been expelled from university and has nowhere to spend the night, and Nina, the woman he loves, is leaving the city for Moscow. Instead of moping, Sos goes to a bookmaker's office and stakes his last thousand rubles on an accumulator, one bet that ties several events together. The combination comes in and he becomes the owner of a large win. The card he needs to collect it, though, is lost, and he has three days to track it down.
