Plot summary
Culloden Moor, April 16, 1746. Charles Edward Stuart leads a Jacobite army of fewer than 5,000 men, many of them conscripted by their clan chiefs, and the troops are hungry and exhausted when the fighting begins. William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland brings 9,000 well-trained government soldiers, and the low battlefield suits his cavalry and artillery. Stuart's gunners open the battle with artillery that falls short of the government lines, and Cumberland's guns answer with roundshot that inflicts heavy casualties among the Jacobites. Stuart keeps his men in place, hoping to tempt the government army forward. The story reaches the screen as television war reporting, with an interviewer speaking to people who were on the scene.

- Culloden was shot on a low budget with only a handful of extras and a single cannon, so Peter Watkins used carefully planned camera angles to make the troops look like a full army.
