Plot summary
In 1982, Jim Royce inherits the Mulholland Drive house where his uncle Herman died and reopens it as a boarding house, taking out a newspaper advertisement for single women. Sandy, Suzie, Cindy, Gloria, Pam and Terri respond and move in. An English woman named Debbie arrives later and pleads for the one cramped spare room. Jim, who is obsessed with the occult and telekinesis, demonstrates his powers to Victoria, an aspiring singer, who is fascinated. Detective Richard Grant watches the house for reasons he does not explain and objects when he finds his former girlfriend Cindy living there. The women prepare for a housewarming party.

- Boardinghouse, the 1982 slasher film written by, directed by and starring John Wintergate, holds the distinction of being the first horror film shot on video.
- Bowing to a distributor who wanted Boardinghouse to be strictly horror, most of its real comedy scenes were cut, something almost impossible because the whole film had been shot with comedy baked in; the odd result inadvertently became a cult classic worldwide.
- The film used a movie gimmick called Horror Vision, in which a warning popped up on the screen to tell audiences a violent scene was coming soon.
- The 157-minute "director's cut" of Boardinghouse was, according to Bleeding Skull writer Joseph Ziemba, an unauthorized version more like a fan edit assembled in iMovie from footage from various sources, and it is left off the AGFA Blu-ray.
- The Boardinghouse DVD put out by Slasher//Video on July 22, 2013 was the first ever DVD to come in a Microsoft Xbox 360 Platinum Hits keep case.
