Plot summary
Ted brings his new girlfriend, Sarah, home to his family's farm in rural Wisconsin for Christmas. Ted's mother, Cathy, an artist, feels an unexplained psychic connection to Sarah that unsettles her. On a hunting trip, Sarah is upset when the group prepares to shoot a deer and runs off into the trees, where a wounded man grabs her and collapses; police collect the body but cannot identify him. That night Cathy tells Ted that Sarah has appeared in her visions. Unable to sleep, Sarah opens a trunk that holds samurai armor and a sword, and a figure in that armor is killing people nearby.

- Fabrice-Ange Zaphiratos played the samurai killer himself and did his own stunts. Unable to source sugar glass from California, he jumped through a real glass window for the climactic scene; it shattered and he was nearly critically injured.
- Zaphiratos got the idea for his samurai-spirit villain after passing an antiques shop window in Chicago displaying samurai armor. He bought the armor and used it in the film.
- Bloodbeat was shot in a rented farmhouse in Spring Green, Wisconsin, where the cast and crew also stayed. The script called for a heavy snowstorm, but the early-spring shoot meant the film shows little snowfall.
- Cinematographer Wladimir Maule, a 24-year-old Art Institute of Chicago graduate, believed the film was being made for television rather than theaters, so he framed it in fullscreen instead of widescreen.
- Zaphiratos said he was under the influence of drugs during filming, and that the title Bloodbeat refers to the accelerated heartbeat a person gets while high.
