Plot summary
The summer of 1920 finds nine people in a lifeboat after their cruise ship goes down in a storm in the North Atlantic: John Trieste, Cathy, Case Quinn, Diane, Philip, Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Gordon, Pat and Mr. Bruin. The boat comes ashore on an island that appears on no chart, and the survivors find no sign that anyone lives there. The group has no ship and no way to reach land they know.

- Two hundred feet of film reel, roughly fourteen to sixteen minutes including an action sequence, was damaged in the camera, leaving the filmmakers without usable footage. Out of film and running out of options, the director's wife suggested making the ending a flashback after recalling a similar ending in Invaders from Mars.
- The key scene in which a survivor's face is eaten away by acid was made by gluing cotton to the actor's face with spirit glue and layering it with liquid latex and fake blood. The whole process took about forty-five minutes.
- Director Michael Stanley was going through one script after another when producer William "Bill" Szlinsky pitched him a scene of a man's face burned off by acid. Stanley built the film around an island of doll-like monsters that killed anyone who came there.
- Attack of the Beast Creatures was Michael Stanley's only film as director for decades; he left the film industry for theater, working twenty-five years as a theater director and staging the New York premiere of The Smoking Room. In 2006 he returned to film to direct the comedy Doing Agatha.
- Some of the cast and crew wanted the film played as a comedy, but Stanley insisted on a serious tone, reasoning that if the serious approach did not work the film might work as a camp.
