Plot summary
In Seoul, architect Lee Seung-min is at his office when Yang Seo-yeon walks in, a woman from his college years whom he fails to recognize at first. She wants him on Jeju Island to replace her old family home with a new one, and though he hesitates, she presses until he takes the project. Years earlier, the two lived in the same Seoul neighborhood of Jeongneung-dong and took the same introductory architecture class, where he fell for her. He could not bring himself to say so, and his best friend Nab-ddeuk kept advising him about women. In the present, Seung-min's fiancée Eun-chae is preparing for their wedding and a move to the US.

- Nine weeks after its theatrical release, Architecture 101 reached over 4.1 million admissions, setting a new box office record for Korean melodramas.
- The film's impact carried into the market: sales of the 1993 first EP by the Korean duo Exhibition, known as JeonRamHwe, rose 70 times in April compared with the previous month, and their later EPs also sold more.
- A longer, deeper kiss between Lee Je-hoon and Suzy was among the deleted scenes, along with a flashback of Seung-min and Nab-ddeuk walking together; the director cut them because he felt they did not fit the movie's tone.
