Plot summary
Iris and Molly are a tag team of attractive female wrestlers. Harry is their manager, and he is trying to take the pair to the top. The three of them are on the road, working toward a big event in Reno, Nevada, at the MGM Grand Hotel. Along the way they endure a number of indignities: a mud-wrestling match, bad motels and small-time crooks.

- Told by Robert Aldrich there would be a nude scene, Laurene Landon and Vicki Frederick hid their breasts with mud while wrestling so nothing would show, and thought they had got away with it.
- Kathleen Turner auditioned for All the Marbles but did not get a part; while she was in Los Angeles for that audition she also tried out for Body Heat, the film that turned her into a star.
- Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon won the two female leads in a five-minute wrestling match staged for the heads of MGM, Robert Aldrich and Peter Falk, while the other two girls got nothing. Aldrich told Frederick, cast as Iris, to put on 10 pounds.
- Robert Aldrich said he and Mel Frohman stole the psychological drive and ending of the film from Abe Polonsky's Body and Soul (1947), on which Aldrich had worked as an assistant director.
- Peter Falk was suggested for the lead by Robert Aldrich's son, and Aldrich won him over with the same flattery he had used on Bette Davis to get her to star in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.
- Vicki Frederick recalled filming the finale in Reno with 2,500 extras who began screaming when the match started, and she forgot they were filming because it became real to her.
