Plot summary
Kator is a carnivorous shape-shifting alien who lands in woodland in rural England. He is the vanguard of an invasion force, sent to judge whether humans can serve his species as food. He kills Anderson and Sandy, a couple parked in a car, and takes Anderson's appearance. At a manor house he meets Jessica-Ann and Josephine, a couple living in seclusion with chickens and a parrot. Jessica owns the house, inherited from her Canadian parents, while Josephine is the dominant one, possessive of Jessica and suspicious of men. Jessica is bored by her monotonous existence; Josephine resents the stranger. Calling himself Anders and pretending his leg is hurt, he is taken in.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Alien Prey (1977)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The river rescue scene was shot in the Ash, which had been a waste dump for years and looked 'more like crude oil'; because Glory Annen could not swim, director Norman J. Warren filmed it in slow motion on a high-speed camera so the actors spent less time in the water.
- Norman J. Warren was pitched an alien who finds humans 'high in protein and easy prey', then told he had three weeks to start filming and ten days to finish, with no script, and still said yes.
SPOILER
The British Board of Film Censors required cuts to the scene of Kator killing Jessica before it would grant the film an X certificate, which it did on 2 November 1977.- Wally, the cockatoo used in the film, often failed to perform and squawked loudly off-camera, causing problems with the sound recording; he eventually escaped from his birdcage and was never seen again.
- Barry Stokes wore contact lenses as part of his alien make-up and needed regular injections to ease the discomfort in his eyes.
- To save money, no alien spacecraft is seen at the start of Prey; Kator's arrival is conveyed solely by flashing lights and sound effects.
- Because the low budget ruled out hiring an orchestra, composer Ivor Slaney wrote a mostly synthesised score and played the traditional instruments himself, including the piano.
