Plot summary
Luther Sledge, a wanted outlaw, is visiting Ria, his girlfriend, when a member of his gang is shot dead over a poker game. Sledge kills the men responsible and is spotted by an old man, who follows him. Waylaid, the old man describes a gold shipment that passes periodically under the guard of forty riders and halts at the prison where he spent years. Sledge gathers his usual gang, among them Hooker, Bice, Gutherie and Beetle, and they look into the story and outfit themselves. The local sheriff identifies the old man as a former inmate, and a shootout sends the gang fleeing. Watching the guards, the men judge the shipment cannot be reached in the open, so they settle on entering the prison, freeing the inmates, and taking the gold in the confusion.
