Plot summary
Wallace and his dog Gromit run a window cleaning service. Wallace falls for Wendolene Ramsbottom, who keeps the local wool shop. Sheep are being rustled from the fields, and one of them follows Wallace and Gromit home, so Wallace names him Shaun and tidies him up with the Knit-o-Matic, a machine that shears a sheep and knits the fleece into a jumper. When the blueprints for that machine are stolen, Gromit looks into the theft and is framed for the sheep rustling.

- The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 68th Academy Awards, and it launched the Shaun the Sheep spin-off television series, which premiered in 2007.
- Aardman co-founder Peter Lord had Nick Park simplify the script to keep the film to 30 minutes, cutting a love scene between Wallace and Wendolene at Crewe railway station, based on Brief Encounter, that Lord called "the best scene we ever had to cut."
- Making A Close Shave took ten months, with five animators each completing only five seconds of stop-motion footage per day.
- Thanks to a bigger budget than the earlier shorts, composer Julian Nott got to work with a 65-piece orchestra for the first time, and he modeled Wallace and Wendolene's love theme on Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, referencing its use in Brief Encounter.
