Plot summary
In 1946, six years after the earlier Christmas, Ralph Parker is a teenager with two wishes: a used Mercury convertible on a dealer's lot and Drucilla Gootrad, who is dating the star quarterback. Sitting in the car, he sets it rolling into a light pole, and the dealer gives him until Christmas Eve to cover the damage or face the police. When the Old Man refuses to hand over the money, Ralph starts working at Higbee's department store with Flick and Schwartz. At home, the Old Man's cheapness threatens the holiday: he will not pay for a new furnace or a turkey, and says he will catch the Christmas dinner himself through the ice.

- Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in the original A Christmas Story, had no involvement in A Christmas Story 2 and has refused to watch it. He said he rejected all sequel pitches until 2022's A Christmas Story Christmas because they were just attempts to monetize the original.
- Nat Mauldin wrote the script and narrates instead of Shepherd. The subplot about Ralphie and his friends getting jobs and being fired was Shepherd's idea and had appeared in Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss.
