Plot summary
John Belushi lies in a morgue on the night of March 5, 1982, when something wakes him, and he runs out before an autopsy can begin. A taxi picks him up, and its driver, Angel Velasquez, tells him he is his guardian angel. At the Chateau Marmont John understands that he died the night before, and Angel then leads him back over the years of his life: the woman he met before he formed The Ravens, his training at The Second City, and the manager he signed with on the eve of the first Saturday Night Live broadcast. A journalist is meanwhile asking the people who knew John about his life for a book.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Wired (1989)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Dan Aykroyd said he had "witches working" to jinx Wired, and had J. T. Walsh, who played Woodward in the film, fired from Loose Cannons after two days because of his part in it, costing that production a $125,000 delay.
- Michael Chiklis won the role of John Belushi after being chosen over 200 other actors; he put on 30 pounds for the part and wore brown contact lenses over his blue eyes to resemble Belushi more closely.
- Producer Feldman accused Hollywood powerbroker Michael Ovitz of using his influence to sabotage the production and distribution of Wired, whose Creative Artists Agency had represented Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray; Ovitz said he had nothing to do with the movie.
- Michael Chiklis said starring in Wired derailed his career for 18 months: "After Wired, everyone was afraid to touch me for fear of reprisal."
- The filmmakers could not obtain the rights to Belushi's original Saturday Night Live skits, so they were forced to write imitations such as "Samurai Baseball".
- Two years after Wired came out, Belushi's widow Judith wrote the book Samurai Widow to counter the image of her husband in Woodward's work, and later co-wrote a 2005 oral history with Tanner Colby.
