Plot summary

Archival footage of Walmart's chief executive praising the corporation at an employee convention is set against interviews with people across the United States, among them a family hardware store owner in the Midwest and residents of towns where a Walmart opened. Workers are paid an average of about $17,000 a year, too little to afford the company's health insurance, and are directed to government programs such as Medicaid. Cleanup crews staffed by undocumented workers, anti-union practices and crime in store parking lots are among the other subjects. Crews in Bangladesh and China visit factories making Walmart goods, and a Walmart employee of nine years describes clothing plants in Latin America.
