Plot summary
Mickey Prohaska sells insurance in Wisconsin, and he is running out of money. His wife JoAnn has put him out of the house, and he will say nearly anything to anybody to close a sale. He drives out with Bob Egan, an agent he has just met, to the farm of Gorvy Hauer, an absent-minded elderly man whose home is a mess. Gorvy keeps what little cash he has in a jar, and Mickey pitches him a policy anyway. Gorvy also owns an old violin. Dahl, a Chicago appraiser whose shop holds musical instruments, looks the violin over and values it at $25,000.
