Plot summary
Doug Harris is a successful tax attorney whose wedding to Gretchen Palmer is less than two weeks away, and he has no best man and no groomsmen. Jimmy Callahan runs Best Man, Inc., a service that rents out convincing best men to grooms who lack friends. Doug needs seven groomsmen to match Gretchen's bridesmaids, a formation Jimmy has never attempted, and he agrees to arrange it for a fee. Jimmy recruits men from his circle and auditions others for the remaining places, inventing identities for each of them. Doug introduces Jimmy to Gretchen's family as Bic, a military priest serving in El Salvador, and the two men work to keep the story straight through brunches, photographs and a football game with Gretchen's father and his old teammates.
