The Viking Sagas (1995) on Netflix

Plot summary

Kjartan is a young man in Iceland during the Viking Age. His father holds land there, and a horde of Vikings intends to take it; they intend to take Kjartan's girlfriend Gudrun as well. Kjartan seeks out Gunnar, an older warrior, and asks to be trained. Gunnar takes him on and turns him into a fierce fighter, and he joins Kjartan in the struggle against Ketil, Kjartan's archenemy. Kjartan fights for his family's honor, for Gudrun and for the survival of his people's hard culture. The tale takes its inspiration from the old Icelandic sagas, particularly Njáls saga, while the plot is its own.
