Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Specialist (1994)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Steven Seagal was first offered the lead role and the chance to direct, but the studio balked at his $9 million asking price and his demand to tone down the sex scenes, so it went to Sylvester Stallone instead.
- Once the film went into production Akiva Goldsman reworked the screenplay. Stallone's character had been written as a lonely, existential figure, but at the last minute he reverted to the action character, and Stone's part was made more of a victim than a free agent lacking identity.
- Before it was ever filmed, the Los Angeles Times named the screenplay the best unproduced thriller script in Hollywood, based on a poll of forty agents, producers and studio executives.
- Roger Moore wrote in his autobiography that he was offered a role in the film and turned it down, adding that after he saw the finished movie he was glad he had passed.
