Plot summary
Alia has lost her younger sister Abel, and a spirit named Mirah has followed her for close to a year. Mrs. Windu, who guides Alia in the use of her third eye, teaches her to read an object's past through touch, and a necklace of Mirah's shows Alia a large brown mansion. Alia joins the staff of an orphanage kept by Mrs. Laksmi and Mr. Fadli, and she recognizes the building as the house from that vision. Among the children is Nadia, a teenager whose opened third eye lets her see spirits; she draws them to push them out of her mind. Nadia calls Abel to mind, and the two grow close. A voice pleads for help from inside the walls, and the pair go looking for where it comes from.
