Ships in the Night: A Martha's Vineyard Mystery (2021) on Netflix

Plot summary

Jeff Jackson, once a Boston detective, and island doctor Dr. Zee Madieras keep failing to find time for a date. They volunteer for the regatta, whose fundraising auction gets a donated artwork from the Winchester Galleries, owned by Lila Winchester. Britt Prajna arranged the gift, and when the three go to collect it one morning the gallery is locked with its alarm on and the manager dead inside. Chief Madieras asks Jeff to help unofficially. The victim was difficult and had private and work troubles, and a piece by local artist Carl Kilburn is missing, so a robbery gone wrong is possible. Zee's retired mentor, Dr. Eli Leichtner, is developing an open source dialysis device rather than patenting it. Jeff stays in touch with Detective Andy Lau about his partner's killing.
