Biography

Terence Morgan was an English actor who worked in theater, cinema and television. Born in Lewisham, London, he was first employed at Lloyd's of London before a scholarship took him to RADA, where he graduated in 1942. After an Army theater unit and repertory work, he joined the Old Vic Company in 1948 at Laurence Olivier's invitation and played Laertes opposite Olivier in Hamlet (1948). Supporting parts followed, including Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1951). He took many villain parts in British films, including Turn the Key Softly and Tread Softly Stranger, before starring as the title character in the television series Sir Francis Drake. He appeared in 30 films, later including The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964), The Penthouse and The Lifetaker, and also worked in series such as King and Castle and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
