Tak Sakaguchi

Biography

Tak Sakaguchi is an actor, writer and director who showed quick reflexes and strong motor skills early on and became skilled in Judo and boxing. A street fighter at the time, he came to the attention of Ryuhei Kitamura, then an unknown filmmaker who was raising money for his independent movie Versus and lacked established actors. Kitamura selected Sakaguchi for his natural fighting skills and physical prowess, believing his street experience could transfer to film. Versus (2000) became a hit in Japan and later a cult success overseas, launching both men's careers. They collaborated again on the Azumi series, including Azumi (2003), Alive, Aragami and Battlefield Baseball. In 2005 Sakaguchi took more mainstream roles in Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (2005). He appeared in Death Trance, a part similar to Versus, and directed action scenes on Death Watch. In 2007 he acted in film and television and wrote and directed his first feature, Sakigake!! Otako juku (Be a Man! Samurai School).
