Stuart Devenie
Biography
Stuart Devenie is a New Zealand actor and theater director who has spent three decades working on stage and screen. Born in New Zealand in 1951, he led Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North as artistic director during the 1980s and later taught at Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School, and in 2000 he founded the company Playfair Ltd. He is best known for three appearances in Peter Jackson films: Meet the Feebles (1989), Braindead (1992), released in the United States as Dead Alive, and The Frighteners (1996), and he played Father McGruder in Braindead. On television he was Governor Croque in Jack of All Trades, in 2000, and Njord, a Norse god, in The Almighty Johnsons. He has directed The God Boy for Auckland Theatre Company and acted in many stage productions, and in the 2008 New Year Honours he was appointed a Member of New Zealand's Order of Merit for services to entertainment.
